Introduction to a new medical perspective

Fascia: Pain Generator and Diagnostic Tool
Fascia is our largest sensory (mechano-sensitive) organ. From the perspective of the Fascial Distortion Model (FDM), the most significant fact is that fascia serves as our sensory organ for all types of pain and positional sensations within our body (nociception and proprioception).
That means it informs us about touch, pain, and our 5th sense (body sense), i.e., our movements and position in space.

Everywhere in the body where structural damage occurs due to diseases, injuries, tumors, etc., fascia, with its rich network of nerve fibers and receptors, serves as our organ of perception for dysfunction and pain.

For some body regions, such as our viscera, this is generally accepted, while in the case of the musculoskeletal system, it is still surprisingly often ignored. Here, especially, the connections between bone, muscle, and connective tissue are very complex.

Every muscle sheath, every muscle fiber, every tendon, every joint capsule, even every nerve sheath is made of fascia. It coordinates and controls our functions through a close connection with the nervous system, whether it be strength, muscle tension, dexterity, or coordination, and constantly provides us feedback on pain and function.

Thus, this all-encompassing and penetrating connective tissue matrix is our most complex and precise sensory organ for physical perception. With the concept of the Fascial Distortion Model, we utilize this capability for diagnosis and therapy.
